Presentations
Papers may be presented orally, or as a poster concerning tropical root
and tuber crops (Cassava, Yam, Sweetpotato, Aroids, Potato, and minor
root crops). Abstract of papers, not exceeding 250 words, double spaced,
should be sent by mail, FAX, or Email to:

not later than March 31, 2000. Full text of papers (in English) must
reach the Secretary of the Planning Committee by May 31, 2000. Format
details of abstracts/papers/posters will be provided in the second announcement.
The compiled abstracts will be distributed to participants at the symposium.
Selected papers will be published in the Symposium proceedings.
Funding
Participants are encouraged to look for their own sources of funding.
A limited number of travel grants may be provided by ISTRC. Individuals
who wish to be considered for the travel grants should submit the full
text of their papers including the abstract by March 31, 2000.
Registration
Each participant is required to pay registration fee of \35,000. This
covers the cost of attending technical sessions, Welcome Cocktail, coffee
breaks, Closing Dinner, Field Trip and a copy of the proceedings. The
registration fee for accompanying persons is \15,000 which includes the
Welcome Cocktail and Closing Dinner.
Transportation
Recommended Route : By airport bus (1.5 hour ride) from New
Tokyo International Airport (Narita Airport) to Tsukuba Center (leaving
every two hours).
Alternate Route : By Narita Express train from the airport to JR
Tokyo Station, then by Joban Highway Bus to Tsukuba Center.
Accommodations
A number of hotels are available with rates ranging from US$50.00 to US$100.00
per night in Tsukuba City. Detailed hotel information will be provided
in the second announcement.
Field trip
There will be a one-day trip to meet farmers, and view fields and agricultural
research institutes.
Language
The official language of the Symposium is English. Neither translation
staff nor equipment will be provided.
