Profile
Professor Andrew Westby has been President of the ISTRC since 2003. He is a Professor of Food Technology and NRI's Director of Research and Enterprise. A post-harvest technologist with 19 years post-doctoral experience working mainly, though not exclusively, with root and tuber crops on a wide range of issues concerned with handling, processing, marketing, food quality and food safety. Field experience in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

Professor Westby was Councillor for Publications 2000-2003.

Mr Keith Tomlins is a Reader in Food Safety and Quality. Over 20 years experience in international project management, research and consultancy. Expertise in cargo inspection in shipping and warehouse management. His experience includes sweetpotato, cassava and yams. This involves research into food safety, acceptability, marketing and handling. A specific area of interest is the application of sensors; for example the development on an eelectronic sweetpotatof to monitor handing and eelectronic nosesf as rapid methods for monitoring quality. Over 70 assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

Profile
Dr Gregory Robin in Councillor for the Caribbean. His experience includes molecular pathology and agronomic and post-harvest studies in the production and export of taro. He is currently the CARDI Root Crops Programme Leader and the CARDI Representative and Agronomist (Food Crops) in the Commonwealth of Dominica. He is also the Regional coordinator of the Caribbean Agricultural Science and Technology Network Systems (PROCICARIBE) and the Caribbean Roots and Tubers Network (CAROT) (from September 2001).

Profile
Philippe Vernier is the Councillor for North America/Europe. He is head of the Horticulture Research Unit at CIRAD (Centre de cooperation internationale en recherche agronomique pour le developpement) and a yam agronomist. He is working on yam-based cropping and post-harvest systems. He has conducted research in New Caledonia and West Africa for more than 20 years.

Profile
Dr Satish Chandra is the Councillor for the South Pacific. His experience in tropical root crops includes farming systems, agronomy, and economics of production and marketing. He is the former Director of Agricultural Research in Fiji. His current interest is in the link between the development of tropical root crops and poverty alleviation in the developing countries, with a particular focus on the South Pacific countries.
